Austin Seven Road Springs
The Austin Seven features a Half-Elliptic transverse front spring and Quarter elliptic springs at the rear. If your road springs have lost their setting it may be possible to have them reset and tempered. In many cases however springs will show signs of wear and after many years use the material the spring is made from becomes fatigued with risk of failure. Like Austin Seven crankshafts, springs do occasionally break causing not only inconvenience, but risk of losing control of the vehicle. New springs with properly adjusted shock absorbers will ensure a comfortable ride with more predictable handling and safe control of the vehicle.
We have four different sets of road springs available:
1. Short chassis high frame.
2. Long chassis high frame.
3. Long chassis low frame.
4. All sports models
Special springs can be made to special order at special prices but require extra delivery time.
Chassis Lubrication:
Regular lubrication of the king pins and shackles will ensure a long life. Original lubrication schedules recommended that the chassis grease nipples should be greased each week, or 300 miles. Much of the “wear” on king pins and shackle pins is caused by corrosion, so use a waterproof grease and if you have been out in some heavy weather, try to grease the car as soon as possible, to force water out of the working parts. For best results jack the car up under the chassis to take the weight of the car from the working surfaces. Pump grease through each nipple until clean grease is forced out.
